What People Are Telling Us on the Doorsteps: Pavements, Post, and Police Accountability

What We Heard on the Ground: Grassroots campaigning is all about listening. While big news focuses on Westminster, people in Bridgwater are dealing with day-to-day problems that need real, straightforward fixes.

Everyday Life Under Pressure: Two main issues stood out above everything else.

  1. Street drinking and anti-social behaviour are wearing down confidence in our town centre.

  2. Illegal E-scooters zooming across pavements without warning are making walking unsafe for older residents and parents with prams.

Add in the nightmare with Royal Mail—where people are missing medical letters and important post—and it is clear our basic services are letting us down.

Getting Things Fixed: This is not just about writing complaints down on a clipboard; it is about tracking these problems and pushing for the accountability our town deserves. There were plenty of issues such as speeding, HPC fly parking standing out which we are on the case with.

The Prime Minister: After his emotional speech to conference earlier this week, I was keen to hear how Andy Burnham is landing on doorsteps and I was pleased to hear that local people thought highly of him! This is obviously great news and shows taking a new solutions-focused approach and rewiring politics is the way forward. I agree that so many politicians have let our country down over the years and we do need control back of the basics. I would have liked to have heard more about increasing police resources but I guess the approach is to invest in young people as this interesting interview showed this week.

Join the Avon and Somerset Police "Show Your Working" Campaign: We are growing fast, with over 50 people already signed up to our campaign. To get this right, we need real transparency from our local services. If you want to see how local policing decisions are made, hold authorities to account, and help us demand better, join our growing Avon and Somerset Police "Show Your Working" platform today.

Backing Our Town: Imagine a Bridgwater where our streets are safe, pavements are secure for everyone, and the post arrives on time. We need to keep shining a light on these everyday issues and standing up for local people.
