Turning the Tide on Bridgwater’s Heritage

It would be nice to see the boats back on the Docks again!

  • Shifting Gears: As we looked at the vital need for common sense on our roads in The Celebration Mile Miscalculation and Hopes for a Dunball Bypass amongst other things, daily town issues can often wear you down—making the major wins for our local infrastructure all the more important to highlight.

  • New Life for the Docks: Following years of campaigning and uncertainty, the landmark approval for the historic docks—backed by millions from the Town Deal—is set to transform a neglected asset into a proper destination for leisure, boating, and public spaces.

  • Bridging Past and Future: From repairing the historic bascule bridge to restoring active travel links, this project taps into Bridgwater’s rich industrial history while finally giving it a modern, usable future.

  • Keeping the Momentum Going: While other parts of the town centre still battle bureaucratic headaches, seeing real traction at the docks proves that our waterfront heritage is worth fighting to protect and revive.

  • Plan Your Next Walk: Take some time this weekend to head down toward the basin and see the area before the major works kick off; you can check out the official timelines and project details via the Somerset Council Bridgwater Docks info page. Be warned- it hasn’t been updated in a while. Why not look at the proposals instead if you have no faith that they will update it any time soon!
