Bridgwater Under Wheels: A Weekend of Anti-Social Riding

  • Victoria Park Under Siege: The weekend calm was shattered once again as dirt bikes and unregistered machines tore across our cherished green spaces in Victoria Park and Brewery Fields. Residents are rightly asking why this behaviour is allowed to continue unchecked in areas meant for families and recreation.

  • Too Close for Comfort on Cornhill: While investigating a local resident's issue yesterday, I had a first-hand reminder of the town centre menace when two kids on e-scooters came tearing around Cornhill, narrowly missing me. They were also trying to pull off ‘tricks’ right where I was trying to take a photo. Apparently it’s meant to intimidate people. I think they look stupid but I can see why it could be intimidating for people especially when they deliberately get so close! It's a daily hazard echoing reports across the board.

  • The Wheel-and-Motor Menace Spreads: It isn't just town centre pavements; this reckless culture is spilling everywhere. Local reports from Puriton highlighted riders terrifying a horse on quiet country lanes, while at Gallagher Retail Park, adults acting like they own the tarmac are darting out unexpectedly.

  • No Age Limit on Recklessness: Proving it stretches across all generations, we've seen everything from unsupervised youths treating public squares like skate parks to adults ignoring basic safety. When people "should know better" engage in this unpredictable behaviour, it sets a dangerous tone.

This man was stopping for no one!

  • Rallying for Safer Spaces: Whether it's scramblers in the park, scooters buzzing past pedestrians on Cornhill, or close calls on retail park tarmac, this free-for-all cannot continue. We need consistent enforcement and formal reporting to push back.

  • Make Your Voice Count: Keeping our streets, parks, and shopping hubs safe requires community action. If you witness dangerous riding or anti-social vehicle use anywhere in the area, make sure to log formal reports via the Avon and Somerset Police reporting channels before a serious accident occurs.

  • Join the Conversation: Have you had a near miss with a scooter or dirt bike this weekend, and where do you feel the most unsafe? Get in touch and let me know.
