The Community Response: This is what local listening looks like. Over 200 residents came forward during our consultation to highlight the reality of illegal e-scooters on pavements—from parents dodging high-speed riders near pram wheels to residents worried about elderly neighbours walking safely.
The Gap in Enforcement: While police statistics mention 30 e-scooters seizures force-wide, Bridgwater residents know that headline numbers don't solve local problems on our estate paths. We need visible, proactive accountability on the ground.
Proactive Solutions: Following proven models like Darlington, I am advocating for targeted Section 165 sweeps. Seizing illegal machines proactively protects pedestrians and sends a clear message that pavements are for walking and to parents that it is not worthwhile losing £300 on a present for their children that will be seized and crushed.
Stand With Us: Safety isn't about passive reporting; it's about building a community-led plan that works. Sign up for our "Show Your Working" campaign and help us keep Bridgwater moving safely.
Other places are getting this right. Why can’t we?
